COLFAX

Colfax is a Town in unincorporated Placer County which is located off Interstate 80 at 2425 feet in elevation. State Highway 174 also runs through Colfax, passing Rollins Reservoir on the way to Grass Valley. Colfax is a town with a rich history influenced by the gold rush, Transcontinental Railroad and even a wild west story or two of gold stolen from a stagecoach robbery. Colfax was a supply stop for the numerous nearby mining camps in the 1800s and served at the Southern Terminus for the Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad and was a stop along the Transcontinental railroad. The first stagecoach robbery happened in Illinoistown (now Colfax) in 1852 when thousands of dollars of bullion was stolen.

ENDLESS SUMMER FUN

Today Colfax is a quiet mountain town but sounds from the past still echo from the train horn blowing in the distance as it rounds the mountains twists and turns. My favorite places to go in Colfax are boating to the sandbar at Rollins Reservoir and light hiking at the Bear River Campgrounds where my family and I enjoy picking wild blackberries in the summer. Colfax is a great jumping off place if you travel to Lake Tahoe or hit the slopes often. The summers are near perfect weather with warm days and comfortable nights

PEACEFUL MOUNTAIN LIFE

During the winter, Colfax is transformed into a winter wonderland and can experience anywhere between a few inches of snow to several feet. You will enjoy the conveniences of living in a well-established town offering restaurants, bars, grocery store and shops all while enjoying the peaceful experience of mountain life. Properties here range from newer construction homes to craftsman style or Victorian style historic homes near downtown.

As you drive a bit further from downtown, the variety of homes expands to various styles of single-family homes to large custom homes and many of these options include acreage and lots of mature pine trees. The Colfax Fourth of July festivities and fireworks as well as Train Days and Holiday parade are all fun events for the whole family to enjoy throughout the year.
