AUBURN
A BIT ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Auburn is situated along Interstate 80 at 1227 feet elevation about 30 miles East of Sacramento. Highway 49 runs through Auburn leading to Grass Valley in the North and Placerville in the South. In 1848 a group of French miners on their way to Coloma, struck gold at the Auburn Ravine and the miners decided to stay and continue their pursuit for gold. In 1849 Auburn was officially named as the population continued growing. In 1865 the Transcontinental Railroad reached Auburn as the railroad continued expansion to the East.
Today Auburn is a well-established community in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Old Auburn features numerous shops, restaurants, bars and the Auburn Fairgrounds. Auburn is divided into two parts separated by Interstate 80. On the opposite side of the Interstate, the newer housing and business developments are located with attractions such as movie theatres, restaurants and plentiful shopping options.
