ROCKLIN

The City of Rocklin is a highly desirable, sprawling suburb in Placer County which is bordered by Roseville, Lincoln, Loomis and Granite Bay. This community is centrally located off of Intestate 80, Northeast of Highway 65 at the base of the Sierra Nevada Foothills and is only about 20 miles from Sacramento. The City of Rocklin has a population of nearly 70,000 people but retains a strong sense of community for its size.Prior to the gold rush era and the time of the Transcontinental Railroad expansion, the Nisenan Maidu were some of the first inhabitants of Rocklin whose historical presence can still be seen today at Johnson Springview Park in the form of grinding indentations left on the large rock slabs.

In the mid 1800s Rocklin's granite quarries were turning our large slabs of Granite and some of which were used in the construction of the State Capitol and Fort Mason in San Francisco.  In 1867 the Central Pacific Railroad built a roundhouse in Rocklin which was later replaced by a larger roundhouse in Roseville due to the room for further expansion in Roseville. Like many communities in Placer County, the construction of the railroad heavily influenced the development and expansion of the area and has contributed to its prosperity along with the quarries.

Some of my favorite things about Rocklin are the numerous parks, trails and open green spaces as well as community events. If you are interested in disc golf, tennis, hockey, or would like to test your skills at the skate park then Johnson Springview Park is a great place to go and has expansive trails along the back side of the park which wind around next to the creek. The City of Rocklin recently purchased the old Rocklin Golf Club property now called Sunset Whitney Recreation Area and has given considerable effort to transform this area into a well-maintained open space where the local residents and whole community can now enjoy the trails, ponds and green spaces once limited to golfers and local residents only.
Bicycle and walking trails wind throughout the community and extend all the way into Roseville. During Spring and Summer, Rocklin utilizes the services of local goats to keep the tall grasses at bay in many of the open spaces and along the trails which are a treat to see when you are enjoying the trails. During the summer there is no shortage of activities to keep cool with splash pads at Johnson Springview Park, Kathy Lund Park and Whitney Community Park plus you can enjoy the Mike Shellito Indoor Pool or take a short drive to Golfland Sunsplash water park or Folsom Lake or Camp Far West Lake.
